World's Greatest Worship Leader Posted By: Doug (4/25/2007 1:05:51 PM) I was listening to the radio this morning, and I heard an interesting phrase. Someone whose song was playing on the radio was referred to by the DJ as one of the "World's Greatest Worship Leaders" The thought that went through my mind was this: isn't that a bit of an oxymoron? Here's what I mean. The purpose of a worship leader is to direct and point people's attention toward God. So it seems to me that the world's best worship leader would have to be so good that no one would even notice he was there, because their attention would be so fully engrossed in praising God. So if you are noticed so much that people call you the "greatest", doesn't that mean you haven't succeeded in directing their attention toward Christ? It reminds me of John the Baptist, who said that Jesus must increase, and he (John) must decrease. And isn't that really what all of us ought to be doing? Instead of trying for the limelight, and people's attention, we should be eager to "decrease", letting Christ have the center of attention, even if it means no attention for us. |
